Premiership tips – round #2

22 Aug

Another weekend and another round of Premiership fixtures for yours truly to try to hunt out some profit from.

Success last week with the Blackpool corner means I’m off to a flyer.

OK, so I looked at several of yesterdays games and was going with Stoke v Spurs for a both to score bet, but the team news changed my mind. Also considered Arsenal v Blackpool and West Brom v Sunderland for this type of bet but glad I swerved those.

Also looked at the Newcastle v Villa game for today, and I find it quite interesting that of the 7 teams that started with the trendy 4-2-3-1 last weekend, Villa were the only winners. With Milner gone though and a new manager in charge, will continue to monitor for now, rather than invest in a victory for them today.

So what am I betting on you may ask? Well I think I’ve got something for this afternoon at Craven Cottage, let me explain…….

Fulham v Man United

Former United legend Mark Hughes is back in management after a big Woy shaped hole was left at Fulham, and though not everyone’s cup of tea, should do a good job in building on what Hodgson has started.

He started off with a 0-0 at Bolton last week and adopted the 4-2-3-1 formation like so many others, playing Murphy and Etuhu in front of the back four.

This is an interesting use of Murphy as the playmaker, leaving Gera with opportunity to push forward and score goals, along with Duff and Davies. I expect Gera to score more than usual and could be a good bet today.

United should stick to their usual 4-4-2 with Scholes currently running the show while Fletcher does the donkey work. Hughes needs to address this and for starters I’m hoping with 5 men in midfield, it will stifle United and Scholes creativity.

So going to follow an old tactic from the World Cup and try a half time draw here at a nice looking price.
